  Simple Paper Lantern making

  Come create your own lanterns to brighten the long winter nights! We'll use markers to draw images inspired by stories related to the seasonal shift that begins at the mid-point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox, or perhaps inspired by your own creative imaginings. We'll rub oil into the paper to add translucency to the image, and then shape the paper into boxes and cylinders; we will make one of each. Finally we'll add small electric candles and handles to the containers to finish our lantern.

  No experience necessary; all experience levels welcome.

  Zine Making 101: An Art Form for Resistance will take participants through the history of how Zines - short form, independently published booklets - came into existence, and the role they continue to play in our world today. We will explore the different types of zines, from poetry to informational to collage, and begin a practice of making our own zines. Throughout this process, the class will merge individual and collaborative art making, culminating in a zine fair as the class comes to a close.

  Draw inspiration from an assortment of altered magazine pages prepared by the instructor to facilitate a very simple and effective technique for simply fusing layers collage papers. Work freely, exercise your intuition, have fun!

  A large choice of prepared papers, additional magazines and other ephemera will be provided, but please feel free to bring papers that inspire you.  All  other materials and tools will be provided for the workshop.

  This class is for those with some stained glass experience. You will create a 3” x 6” long sun catcher, using blue and white glass, glass gems, and wire. You will design and cut your own piece. Please bring a mask and a pair of garden or rubber gloves.

  Students will have a lesson on color theory, learn how one color effects another. They will learn to nip tile using wheeled nippers. They will also learn how reflectivity and translucency of glass effects the color. They will make a beautiful color wheel to take home.

  Birch Bark Stars

  taught by  Barbara Boughton

  Using strips of hand-harvested and processed birch bark, students will learn how to create two-sided stars in two sizes. A wide variety of cording and beads will be offered for piecing together a finished ornament, each unique to its maker.
