Mindful Beading

taught by Arlin Zephyr Will

Beads have held special meaning across cultures for centuries, serving as tools for meditation and prayer, keeping count, marking milestones, and simply providing a calming, tactile focus for the mind.

In this hands-on workshop, you'll explore the rich history and symbolism of beads while creating your own beautiful set of glass beads. Whether you choose to use them for meditation, mindfulness, or as a unique personal keepsake, you'll leave with a meaningful handmade creation that reflects your own style and intention.

I work with glass and stone beads to create nontraditional rosaries, meditation beads, fidgets, and memory aids, and I strongly believe in finding ways to bring beauty and ritual to everyday life. I have worked as a teacher, educational program coordinator, and multimedia communicator, and have professional experience in the performing arts. I have been an educator and an artist in parallel for most of my life, and I am excited to now be merging those two passions. I am new to the Capital Region (formerly of North Carolina) and loving it here.

Reconnect with your creativity, slow down, and make time for yourself in this welcoming 12-week creative journaling course. Through art, writing, and reflection, students will create a personalized journal that becomes a space for self-expression, inspiration, and creative exploration.

Each week introduces a new theme and creative prompt designed to spark curiosity and encourage experimentation. Using watercolor, colored pencil, markers, collage, pen, and mixed-media techniques, participants will explore playful mark-making, expressive drawing, visual storytelling, and reflective writing. There is no "right way" to keep an art journal—this course celebrates curiosity, process, and finding joy in creating.

Whether you're an experienced artist or have never considered yourself creative, you'll discover that an art journal is a place to experiment, reflect, and grow without the pressure of creating perfect artwork.
