Artist Statement
I am an observational artist who is not constrained by visual reality. I am also a life long artist.
Today I pursue my work as an avid sketch hunter. By this I mean that I am always on the look
out for possible subject matter to use. When I feel the excitement of a place or an idea, I lay it
out in simple forms with a marker or pen, making notes on the drawing and taking photos. This
records my first impression and gesture of a place. It’s this excitement that I wish to portray
and share with the viewer. I am always pushing and pulling with abstraction and reality. I find
that this combination of on site observation and working in the studio, works best for me.
Most of the pieces in this exhibit are inspired by local nature paths where I frequently walk.
I like Paul Klee’s creative credo,”Art does not replicate what we see; rather it makes us see.”
