Artist Statement

Landscape, both rural and urban have served as backdrops to my life. The photographs I chose for this show are a tapestry of my world. They are an array of natural and man-made locations that have influenced my experiences. Some are historic and evoke nostalgia for moments past, others are timeless reflections of natural beauty, some are new discoveries, and several are imaginary.

Photography is my main method of discovery and I have wondered if I’m only myself behind my camera. I don’t know what I think until I look at my photographs and some remind me that I have lost touch with people I used to be. Photography has been my way to experience becoming, to find out what’s inside me.

“A work of art does not answer questions, it provokes them; and it’s essential meaning is in the tension between the contradictory answers.” Leonard Bernstein
