Artist Statement
In my current works, I am primarily drawn to and interested in presenting boldly bright and geometrically inspired concepts, while using a variety of colors leaning towards the primary color spectrum. I draw inspiration from my childhood of the 80’s and 90’s, artists and fashion designers of the early-mid 20th century, blended with elements dream-inspired whimsy.
I hope my works invoke feelings of joy, curiosity, and wonder where in a time many feel the opposite. I also intentionally avoid creating works that appear perfect to remind audiences that human-made art, and we, are genuine in our imperfections, especially as we become ever increasingly inundated with imagery and stimulus surrounding perfectionism.
My previous works have been largely more abstract and formless, and on much larger scale, whereas my current works embody form and are of a smaller scale, but are still in essence abstract.
Artist Bio
Gerrad is currently based in upstate New York. He primarily uses acrylic paints on canvas or thick paper, and works from his home studio. He is inspired by geometric shapes, patterns, bold colors, fashion, and contemporary artists of the early-mid 20th century. He is also a fiction writer and sometimes draws inspiration from the characters in his own books.
Gerrad has been commissioned by Heidi Klum’s production company to create arge, glamour- inspired abstract pop-art pieces of work which were used to decorate the set for Germany’s Next Top Model. Many of those works are now in private collections, some were exhibited in galleries in Los Angeles, and some were donated to various charity organizations.
