Artist Statement

Casey Beal is a Middleburgh, NY based textile and fine artist. Her work is greatly influenced by the continuous study of flora and fauna of rural upstate New York: from the native varieties that inhabit the landscape to the agricultural livestock and crops that sustain its human population. Casey’s exploration of people’s ties to the environment attempts to transcend that of a casual observer, creating items that not only celebrate the beauty of nature, but encourage others to play an active role in its preservation. From hand painted hiking bags, to block printed organic cotton clothing and hand towels, to community murals, painting, and illustrations Casey is building a business that supports the arts and the environment. Casey Beal grew up in Middleburgh, NY. She attended Temple University’s Tyler School of Art, receiving a BFA in Jewelry/Metals/CAD-CAM and Teaching Certification in Art Education for grades K-12. Casey is one of this year’s Artist in Residence through the Atelier at Arlene’s, she was the chosen artist for the 2025 CHARM Mural Program for Schoharie County, and was the recipient of a 2024 CREATE Arts Education Grant and 2021 CREATE Individual Artist Community Arts Grant.

“As an artist I strive to create work that is beautiful and accessible to a wide audience. My artistic practice is based on survival through variation. Much like genetic variation improves the chance of survival of a species, variation in medium ensures the continuation of my personal voice.”
