Artist Statement

This series represents both a personal response to a shared experience and a continued exploration of how paint can communicate emotion and environment through abstraction.

I have been painting for as long as I can remember. Painting functions for me as both a disciplined practice and a way of engaging with the world through close observation. My work is shaped by my surroundings and the moments they hold. Growing up and living  on the South Shore of Long Island, NY, the ocean has been a tremendous influence on my life and has shaped how I see and interpret my experience.

This particular body of work was inspired by my daughter, who asked me to create a piece capturing a specific location and moment while on the ocean. That request became the starting point for a new exploration. While this series differs from my previous works, it allowed me to experiment more freely with the material itself, letting the fluid properties of paint guide the process.

By embracing movement and flow, I sought to create compositions that echo the natural rhythms of water and landscape. Rather than depicting a specific place, these paintings aim to capture the feeling of nature, its motion, depth, and calm energy.
