Artist Statement

I have always loved photography. It allows me to show the world what I see and how I see it. It helps me to pay attention to details. “You have a good eye” is what my friends and family tell me. I enjoy looking for things no one else notices. In October 2020 I purchased my first “real” camera-an Olympus OM-D-E-Mark 10 iii. I was intimidated at first as I had no idea what I was doing. My iPhone camera did all of the work for me in the past. I remember the first day I used my Olympus on a hike in the Catskills. I did not know anything about ISO, aperture, or shutter speed. I just started to take pictures.

It was not until I went on a shoot with a good friend of mine, and started to connect with photographers online that I began to learn and develop my skills. The first time I learned how to use long exposure on moving water was exhilarating! I never knew how relatively simple it was-of course I have had to learn to refine this, and I have taken advantage of many opportunities to practice!

Since becoming a serious hobby, photography has allowed me to travel and see beautiful places I otherwise would not have seen. I have traveled throughout the Adirondacks, visited many area parks, hiked mountains, and explored waterfalls. I even had the opportunity to travel to Costa Rica as a group photographer for a yoga retreat!

Of all of the pictures I have taken, I have to say capturing frozen bubbles has been my favorite! I look forward to “frozen bubble season” (aka winter) every year. Like snowflakes, no two are alike.

Photography has become a “lifetime leisure pursuit” as I continue to practice and learn. I look forward to where it will take me next! I hope you enjoy this sampling of images I have curated for you.

Thank you,

Abagail Bernard, Photographer
