First Night Saratoga Coordinator

Saratoga Arts is looking for a coordinator for First Night Saratoga, a family-friendly and alcohol-free celebration of the arts that draws 10,000-15,000 people to downtown Saratoga Springs on New Year’s Eve.  The ideal candidate will have the following talents, skills, and experience:

(1) Programming performing arts festivals or series for broad and varied audiences.

(2) Knowledge and familiarity with the region’s music and arts scene, including an openness to various musical forms and awareness of both long-standing and emerging musicians.

(3) Solid administrative skills that include an ability to establish and stick with long-term planning calendars, keep multiple tracks of a multi-faceted program moving forward simultaneously, engage and supervise supporting coordinators and volunteers.

(4) Strong written and spoken communication skills to accomplish program outreach and publicity goals and maintain positive relationships with artists, venues, vendors, sponsors, and the media.

(5) Strong computer skills including experience with the programs in Microsoft Office or iWork and basic lay-out or design programs such as InDesign.

The First Night Coordinator will work an average of 30 hours a week, primarily at The Arts Center in Saratoga Springs during regular working hours, though occasional irregular hours are required, especially as New Years Eve approaches. This is a temporary position, running July 1, 2013 through February 2014.

Summer Camp Faculty

Saratoga Arts is seeking applicants to fill  several summer camp faculty positions.  Summer camp faculty must be certified to teach in NYS (or currently be active on the BOCES substitute teacher registry), have a passion for the arts and proven experience working with children between the ages of 5-14.  Summer camp faculty will be required to develop and implement, age-approprite, arts-based, lessons (based on the week’s theme) and work with Saratoga Arts staff and summer camp assistants to ensure the safety and well-being of our summer camp participants.  All applicants must be mature, able to work independantly, be proactive in lesson and supply planning, and act as a positive role model for children participating in our summer camp.

Internships:

Fund Development Intern (12-15 hours/ week)
Saratoga Arts offers student interns practical experience working within fund development for a non-profit arts organization. Fund development interns will work closely with the Development Associate assisting with and/or being responsible for:

 

Education / Programming Intern

Saratoga Arts offers student interns practical experience as well as an opportunity to gain general knowledge and a broad understanding of the day-to-day operations in a busy not-for-profit arts center. Education/Programming Interns will work closely with the Associate Director and assist in and/or be responsible for:

1. The creation of exhibition specific gallery guides
2. Developing new media and organizational contacts
3. Organizing and maintaining class/workshop schedules
4. The evaluation of current Saratoga Arts class and workshop offerings
5. Maintaining and updating appropriate pages on Saratoga Arts' website
6. Updating and editing database listings
7. Organizing and recording class registrations
8. General administrative duties as assigned by Saratoga Arts staff.

Interns will also conduct research on relevant program and professional development ideas.  Student interns must be be reliable, motivated and able to work independently. For credit and not for credit internships are available for the spring, summer, and fall semesters. FIRST NIGHT SARATOGA Intern

Saratoga Arts seeks an intern to assist in all facets FIRST NIGHT SARATOGA, the region’s largest New Year’s Eve celebration of the arts and community. First Night books over 70 different acts to perform in over 30 venues, creating employment for hundreds of artists and attracting nearly 10,000 attendees; it therefore necessitates months of planning leading up to the event. The First Night Intern will work closely with the First Night Coordinator and assist in and/or be responsible for:

1. Development of the event schedule

2. Email, phone, and snail-mail correspondence with Performers, Sponsors and Venue Representatives


3. Creating and maintaining and records and spreadsheets


4. Organizing and recording artist applications and contracts 

5. Assisting in all areas of ticket distribution, sales, and tracking


6. Updating and editing website program schedule


7. Development of marketing strategies
 

8. General administrative duties as assigned by Saratoga Arts staff

This is a great opportunity to be learn all stages of large event planning from development to production to evaluation. Student interns must be reliable, motivated, deadline driven and able to work independently; an ability to commit 6 - 10 hours a week this fall is required; the position is open now. Exhibition and Gallery Management Intern

This internship offers students the opportunity to receive practical training in gallery and artist management, curatorial practices and exhibit installations, as well as art administration.  Interns will have the opportunity to work on design, marketing and research based projects that meet the needs of both the individual and Saratoga Arts.  This internship will provide an environment where interns can expand upon their knowledge and skills in gallery management and arts administration.   Exhibition interns will work closely with the Director of Exhibitions.

Student interns must be reliable, motivated and able to work independently. For credit and not for credit internships are available for the spring, summer, and fall semesters. Do you love the arts? Volunteer for Saratoga Arts!

Saratoga Arts relies on nearly one-hundred dedicated volunteers to operate. Without volunteers, Saratoga Arts would not function! By getting involved, you will have a unique opportunity to experience the inner-workings of a dynamic arts center that has grown tremendously since its inception in 1986. As a volunteer, you will also have an opportunity to do the things you love in a beautiful, arts-based, friendly environment where each individual’s skills and talents are maximized and appreciated.

There are many benefits to volunteering for Saratoga Arts. Volunteering gives you an opportunity to connect and network with working artists, arts professionals, the Saratoga Springs art community, and meet dozens of volunteers with similar hobbies and interests. Volunteers learn and develop new skills, can attend special Arts Center events FREE, have fun while helping an organization that offers over a dozen ongoing programs for youth, adults and seniors in Saratoga and the surrounding area, and our volunteers are the most up-to-date on community arts and Arts Center activities and programs.

First Night Saratoga:

First Night is a New Year's celebration of the arts and community. Each year, thousands of revelers come to Saratoga Springs to experience a wide-ranging variety of arts and music. But First Night would not be possible without the help of all our wonderful and dedicated volunteers. We are again seeking volunteers this year to serve as hosts and hostesses in one of over 30 venues, for a chosen 3-hour shift between the hours of 6 PM and 11:40 PM.
