Saratoga Arts offers a comprehensive exhibition program, including nearly 20 on-site and 80 off-site exhibitions annually.  With nearly 12,000 visitors per year in the Arts Center Gallery, we continue to enrich community through exposure to high quality, current, contemporary art.  Our exhibition program offers opportunities for local, regional and national artists, as well as opportunities for wide-ranging experience levels, from first time exhibitors to artists with a substantial exhibition history in The Arts Center Gallery (featuring local, regional and nationally-known artists' work in our 2,000 square-foot gallery.  All of our opening receptions and discussions with the artists are free and open to the public)  and in our Art In Public Places program, as well as The Gallery Shop.   We also host Art in the Park, our annual outdoor fine art fair with over 70 participating artists.

Observations

Kathy Greenwood & Laurel Garcia Colvin

October 4 - November 8, 2014
Opening Reception: October 4, 6-8pm
Discussion with the Artists: October 4, 5:30pm

The Arts Center Gallery is proud to announce the opening of Observations by Kathy Greenwood and Laurel Garcia Colvin on Saturday, October 4th. We invite the public to join us for a lively conversation with the artists at 5:30pm, followed by a reception from 6-8pm with craft beer and hors d' oeuvres provided by Druthers Brewing Company.

Observations brings together two artists whose Individual and collective experiences are greatly impacted by the process in which they observe and interact with the world around them. Emotions, ideas and senses are engaged to form responses, build relationships and create narratives based on these experiences.

The work of Kathy Greenwood and Laurel Garcia Colvin examines and comments on the everyday, from the domestic to the social and political environments that surround us.

The objects and images that populate Kathy Greenwood’s work allude to stories, relationships and observations of daily living. Drawn to the way that the ephemera of home can invoke a host of memories and conjecture, Greenwood paints likenesses and patterns upon familiar surfaces whose associations infuse their subjects. An object in itself, the found cloth surface on which these are painted has its own history of domestic utility and artistry.

Laurel Garcia Colvin’s mixed media drawings explore how the human psyche perceives and reconstructs reality. Colvin evokes emotion and suggests vulnerability in images that infuse printed 18th century French Toile de Jouy designs with a social narrative which is in direct contrast to the nostalgic, sanitized, decorum of the historical patterns.

Kathy Greenwood received her BFA from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY and her MFA from The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Her work has been exhibited widely throughout New York, including at the Opalka Gallery in Albany, NY and The Hyde Collection, Glens Falls, NY and the Greene County Arts Council.

Laurel Garcia Colvin received her BFA and MFA from the University of Texas at Austin.
